Under the Hood of Unreal Engine 3

I don’t know if you get the same feeling, but after that video it seems like the learning curve for people to learn how to make beautiful and immersive 3d games is far less steep now than it was five years ago. Check out the video below as it walks through the Unreal Development Kit’s IDE used in creating 3d games for Android, iOS, and desktop computers.

    Hikakin Beatboxes Super Mario Theme

I really don’t know how I missed this gem in the first place, but it was so amazing that I’ve spent the last half hour watching the rest of Japanese beatboxer Hikakin’s library. His Daft Punk cover is quite eargasm-y, I’d recommend watching that one after. You can stay updated on Hikakin’s new tracks by following him on YouTube or on Twitter.

Mari0 is a Super Mario remake with extreme undertones of Portal gameplay. In fact, the core game logic, Portals, have been introduced to Overland. Mari0 is being developed at Stab Yourself, a two-man game studio consisting of: Maurice Guégan and Sašo Smolej.

Mari0 not only looks cool on the surface, but there are great things in store for it and its players:

    • Yes, this is an actual game being developed – it is not a mod of any existing one. It’s coded with Löve (info at the bottom of the left menu) and will be released for free (so we don’t get stabbed by lawyers)
    • All the source code of the game will be available after release
    • The game will have mappacks, which will be downloadable from ingame. Users most likely won’t be able to publish maps directly, but will be able to send them in and we’ll add them for everyone to use.
    • The primary maps will have a story and some portaly puzzles. What kind, well, we’ll figure that out as we go
    • Level editor will be embedded in the game so you can edit the level while you play
    • Original SMB levels and Lost levels will be included
    • Simultaneous Multiplayer
    • Cross-Platform (Linux, Mac, Windows)

    Aperture Science Case Mod

Well, since Portal 2 is about to be released so shortly (Hmm, what’s happening at 09:00 on April 15th, 2011?) I thought it fitting to post this case mod collage of an AMAZING “Aperture Science” themed computer case by ultraflips of [H]ard|Forum. If you’re interested, check out his work log for this Portal case modification.

Metal Slug Zombie Attack Live Wallpaper

Why not make your Android phone an even bigger time waster by turning your wallpaper into a Metal Slug mini-game? Sounds like a good idea, right? Well, even if you don’t end up playing the mini-game, you’ll enjoy having hordes of zombies stroll across your Droid’s background, reminiscent of the Neo Geo arcade classic.

Just tap on the screen to drop bombs on the zombies, or you can even summon a tank to run them over! You can change the scenery as well as zombie frequency in the live wallpaper’s settings menu.

    NES Cartridge External Hard Drives

Well, it doesn’t take much to catch the eye of a gaming nerd, and this certainly takes the cake. Maybe not the entire thing, but it takes a lot of cake.

8BitMemory, an etsy shop owner, custom fabricates old NES cartridges with the inner workings of external hard drives. You can order your hard drive in either the 500GB or the 1TB model; you might want to opt for the 1TB model because those have been upgraded and are now USB 3.0 capable.
